Rows with a yellow bar on the left differ. A highlighted cell is the best value in that row. A dash means unknown, not zero. Emulation ratings are provisional.
Rows marked as different are the ones that decide this comparison. The chip, system version, storage type and sticks are the same. Size, RAM, battery and weight are not.
Do they play the same games?
On paper, yes. Both use the Snapdragon 865, which our chip guide places in the mid tier, and Batocera's handheld guide says it can emulate up to the 6th generation (PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast). Neither handheld has an emulation rating in our data, so the emulation chart shows blanks for both. That is missing data, not a "no".
The differences that can matter for heavy games are RAM (8 GB against 6 GB) and cooling and battery headroom, which the sources do not measure for these two. If you mostly play 8-bit to PS1 titles, none of it matters. If you plan to push PS2 or GameCube, the Pocket 5 has the larger battery and more memory to work with.
Screen and shape
The Pocket 5 has a 5.5 inch 1920x1080 AMOLED panel. Retro Catalog notes the screen is 60 Hz. The Mini V2 has a 3.92 inch 1240x1080 AMOLED panel with touch listed, and it is a near-square shape, which suits Game Boy Advance, DS-era and 4:3 games better than a wide panel. Wide 16:9 games and PSP fill the Pocket 5 screen with fewer black bars.
Battery and weight
The Pocket 5 lists 5000 mAh mAh at 280 g. The Mini V2 lists 4000 mAh mAh at 215 g. That is about 25 percent less battery for about 23 percent less weight, so the endurance trade is roughly even. Runtime figures depend on the games and screen brightness, so check recent owner reports for either.
Price: what you pay for the extra size
Our dated prices are third-party street prices, not the Retroid store. On 2026-11-05 Retro Catalog lists the Pocket 5 at $200 (retrocatalog approx street price (not official store), Nov 5, 2026) and the Mini V2 at $199 (retrocatalog approx street price (not official store), Nov 5, 2026). A difference of one dollar means price should not drive this choice. Check the Retroid store and any resellers before you buy, because memory costs pushed Retroid prices up in 2026 and these figures can be out of date within weeks.
What about the Classic and the G2?
Two other Retroid models come up in searches. The Retroid Pocket Classic has a Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, 4 GB RAM and no analog sticks, at $120 (retrocatalog approx street price (not official store), Nov 5, 2026). The Retroid Pocket G2 has a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, Android 15, a 5.5 inch 60 Hz AMOLED and 5000 mAh, at $219 (retrocatalog approx street price (not official store), Nov 5, 2026). The Retroid Pocket Nova is not in our data, so we do not compare it here.

Which one to buy
- Pocket 5 if this is your main handheld: bigger 5.5 inch screen, 5000 mAh, 8 GB RAM, and hall sticks.
- Mini V2 if you want a compact handheld for travel and mostly play GBA, DS, PS1 and other 4:3 games, and can live with 4000 mAh and 6 GB RAM.
- Neither if you want the fastest chip. Look at the Retroid Pocket 6 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
